Video rough cut LR

Video rough cut feedback

Estimated current grade: C

Comments & feedback:

  • The first minute is really strong – excellent close-ups, a good performance element with an interesting location and background. Clear visuals that match the song.
  • The external locations are weaker in this rough cut – it doesn’t seem to fit with the initial minute of footage? Think about the overall structure of the video, any effects you could apply to certain elements or perhaps whether it’s worth re-shooting certain parts or creating a new section of some kind.
  • The performance in the art room feels quite different to the first section – is this deliberate?
  • It feels like some shots are on screen for a long time – think about pacing and editing. Is it to do with the amount of original material you have? It may be that you need to shoot more in order to have enough really strong shots for the full three minutes.
  • Along these lines, there are some good performance moments in this but they are uneven and mixed in terms of location / style. Can you even this out or add consistency for this element?
  • I can see what you’re trying to do with the ending but I wonder if the shots are strong enough? Another aspect that is worth looking at again for the final cut.
  • Finally, re-draft your statement of intent using Microsoft Word / Google Docs once you have completed print research and planning and reflected on your video feedback above. This will be the final draft of your statement of intent – due date on Google Classroom.
  • write all classmates feedbacks for video!

Three improvements/changes:
  • focus on external locations after the first scene
  • improve the camera quality for some of the footage
