Cinematography blog tasks

Cinematography blog tasks 1) Write an analysis of the cinematography in the opening sequence.  Highlight  your use of media language and try to cover camera shots, angles and movement using the terminology we have learned in lessons.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6Y7Dqzu990 This is the opening scene of an American TV show Pretty Little Liars. The opening scene starts off with a closeup shot of a girl's eye. The following scenes after are also closeup shots . The closeup shots reveal small details of the character instead of showing what the character looks like as a whole, to create suspense and make the audience question who the girl is. By looking at the closeup of the girl's eye we could see the paleness of her skin and her eyes which shows no emotion, we could infer that she is dead. A slow tilt is used (from up to down) when the girl's hair is getting curled. After the closeup shot of her nails getting painted, the camera goes back and focuses on the girl'

Lighting blog tasks

Lighting blog tasks 1) Still image analysis Look at the still images on slides 33-37 of the Film Language Powerpoint linked above. Copy the images into your blog and answer the following questions for  each  image: Identify examples of  high  and  low-key  lighting. Say which depict  top ,  back  or  under lighting . What  effects  are created by the lighting in each image?      This is an image that shows a woman smoking a cigarette. Smoke indicates suspense and links to the noir theme. The lighting used in this image is low key lighting. This lighting creates a strong contrast of the light and dark and creates the strong shadow behind her. The lighting is very dark and the location of where she is sitting is not revealed, suggesting mystery. Top and back lighting is used to reveal the characters face, almost discovering her identity, however the smoke covers majority of the picture which could imply that she is mysterious. This is an image of a woman looking in an upward direction.

Cinematography video feedback and learner response

Cinematography video feedback and learner response 1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher. Fantastic production- so enjoyable! Excellent range of shots and camera movements Sound use is very good here (editing too- slow motion, Btw) Labels pretty much spot on too- a great production all round. 2) Type up your feedback from fellow students. WWW: editing was done really nicely good hit with the bag (action in the scene) good camera work great acting nice music selection loved the music really nice camera movement nice establishing shot  good setting of the scene music changes as soon as the extreme closeup of her hand shaking- adds tension to the confrontation. accurate shots and labels for angles nice use of different audios at various different scenes EBI: falling on one side of the stairs and position changed in another clip very loud music could have included more high/ low angle shots 3) Now reflect on your work and write your own summary of the comments and feedback

Sound video feedback and learner response

Sound video feedback and learner response 1) Type up your feedback from your teacher. Minor technical issue- project settings/picture size superb production that meets the brief impressively- well done! reversing contrapuntal and parallel really works- fantastic choice of music and excellent selection of clips editing is a particular strength- pace and length of clips and in particular the final shot with the camera movement to the chandelier 2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback. WWW: parallel fits perfectly clips matched music clips were good amazing contrapuntal and parallel clips good choice of clips and music the clips fit well, good music choice EBI: could be smoother editing could be better make the production full screen clips were not stretched to full screen- was a bit jarring one minute, lack of variety parallel clips all similar 3) Now  reflect  on your work and write your own evaluation
