Preliminary exercise learner response

Preliminary exercise learner response

1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full plus a summary of the comments you received from other students in the class.
Teacher's feedback:
  • Only 25 seconds but lots to credit – there is a great concept here and the potential for a brilliant production. I love the old video effect and the narrative is established at the beginning too.
  • Great to see the graphic at the start – title, artist. Should it be artist rather than directed by? Or are you going for a Taylor Swift style self-directed production?
  • Phone shots – can work in this concept but perhaps worth playing with in post-production to fill the screen?
  • Are you planning another scene / location / performance element for the full video?
Student feedback:
WWW:
  • lots of the shots look nice
  • good pace editing
  • variety of different scenes/shots
  • like the title of the video
  • love the memories shown in the video
  • nice and wholesome
  • sound matched the mix of videos
  • retro/VHS effect nicely used
  • shots matched pace of the video
  • so cute! love the filter and the different mix of portrait and landscape videos
EBI:
  • audio quality?
  • vertical video felt out of place
  • low audio quality
  • maybe change frame of shots to make it landscape instead of portrait
  • filters a bit strong
  • the starting felt a little bit out of place but understandable
2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write three WWW bullet points and three EBI bullet points for your work.
WWW:
  • the old retro camera filter gave the video a vintage look which made it look aesthetic
  • different clips used to show different times of joy in the characters life- matches theme of the music video
EBI:
  • I could use portrait videos and make a collage on screen instead of leaving the sides blank
  • Should have filmed more content to make it longer than 30 seconds
3) How effectively did you complete the objective you laid out in your mini preliminary exercise statement of intent?

4) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project?
  • I will need to lay out the portrait clips more differently to fill up the screen and make it look more authentic.
  • Fit the clips to suitable size to fit the screen, adjust portrait and landscape videos
5) Now you have completed the preliminary exercise, will you change anything about your actual coursework video plan? This could include your concept, cast/actors or technical elements such as mise-en-scene, camerawork or editing
  • I would change the camerawork and the different locations. I would keep the actor the same in the music video. I would add more mise en scene elements.
